The Forgotten Ones ( “Nishkahim”) is an Israeli documentary film bringing to light, for the first time, the Holocaust of Former Yugoslavia’s Jewish communities, which resulted in the murder of 84% of its members. Directed by Nitza Goren, the film was released in 2018, shown on Israeli TV and recently at the Jewish Film Festival in Washington D.C.
The camera follows Stella, a young Israeli born in ex-Yugoslavia, as she travels across different regions of ex-Yugoslavia, in her quest to understand the nature and the specifics of the extermination of ex-Yugoslav Jews and the respective parts played by the Germans and the various nationalities that constituted Yugoslavia. In parallel, and very movingly, Stella explores the fate of her Muslim great-grandfather who saved Jews during the Holocaust and has been honored as one of the Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem.

Daniel Pinkas, son of Shoah survivors from former Yugoslavia, philosopher and member of GIL will give a short presentation before the screening.

Réalisé par Nitza Goren, le film est sorti en 2018, a été diffusé à la télévision en Israël et récemment au Jewish Film Festival a Washington.
La caméra suit Stella, une jeune israélienne née en ex-Yougoslavie, à travers les différentes régions d’ex-Yougoslavie, dans sa quête pour comprendre la nature et la spécificité de la Shoah en ex-Yougoslavie ainsi que les rôles respectifs qu’y jouèrent les Allemands et les populations locales non-juives. Parallèlement, et de manière combien émouvante, Stella explore le destin de son arrière-grand-père musulman, qui sauva des Juifs pendant la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale et fut honoré en tant que Juste parmi les Nations par Yad Vashem.

La projection du film sera précédée d’une brève présentation par Daniel Pinkas, fils de survivants de la Shoah en ex-Yougoslavie, philosophe et membre du GIL.
